PAN Card is an essential identification document that is needed to open a savings account. However, things are changing fast. Aadhaar card holders can now apply for PAN card and get the PAN number within a couple of minutes. Earlier applying for a PAN card was a tedious task that involved filing up physical forms and waiting for days to receive your PAN card. Recently, the Income Tax department made it simpler for individuals with Aadhaar card to apply for a PAN card. For the instant PAN card, customers only need to add their Aadhaar number. The e-PAN is issued within 10 minutes in a PDF format. Applicants can use the PAN number to open bank accounts, start investing etc.
Step 1:
Click on Instant PAN through Aadhaar section under “Quick Links” on the left side of income tax department’s e-filing portal.
Step 2:
Click on “Get New PAN” on the new page.
Step 3:
Enter your Aadhaar number for allotment of new PAN card and enter the Captcha code. You need to tick and confirm the various terms and conditions.
Step 4:
Validate the OTP by entering the correct OTP that you have received on your Aadhaar registered mobile number.
Step 5:
Validate Aadhaar details.
Step 6:
If your email id is linked to your Aadhaar card, you can validate your email id as well. However, it is an optional step.
Step 7:
You will be allotted an instant e-PAN. Keep the number handy for further reference.
Step 8:
You can download your PAN in PDF format by entering your Aadhaar number at “Check Status/ Download PAN”.
If your email id is registered with Aadhaar, you will also get the PAN in PDF format in your email.
The online application of the PAN card makes it extremely easy to apply for a PAN card. Just keep your Aadhaar card and Aadhaar linked mobile number handy to carry forward with this process. The entire process should not take more than a few minutes.
